Comments for CRUISE SHIP VS. BATTLESHIP:

I cringe at the "war" thing too... I like the "institution" vs. "outpost" metaphor better; maybe even attractional vs. missional. Some call it the Club Med vs. Fed Ex model. Club Med is all about pampering it's entitled members; Fed Ex is all about getting the package delivered where its needed. My 2 cents. Enjoy. Mark Bushor http://thejourney.typepad.com

Perhaps the analogy would be better served by a ship whose mission is to bring its passengers along to discover a new land/world (Kingdom of God) than a battleship.

What's up with questioning the battle metaphor for the church? Have we forgotten Paul's extensive use of military metaphors?!!!! The Christian life is not a playground; it's a battle ground! See Eph. 6 among many others.

Jesus clearly said that he came to destroy the works of the devil. People who live in circumstances where all is going well often don't see the need to engage in a war with the devil. Come over to Africa and see how people are bound by the devil - maybe the analogy will make more sense then!!! Arnold - Johannesburg

poor dichotomy... can I please get a third option?

pretty much grossed out that the church is associated with such a clear war metaphor. this is a horrible analogy all across the board.

The players on the field desperately needing rest vs. the people in the stands desperately needing exercise. The orphanage keeping people cared for vs. the school training them for life, are two more metaphors worth pondering. Pastor Rick Sams Alliance Friends Church

Very well done. I've sat here at my desk and watched this 5 times in a row, never growing tired of the challenge this video gives. Awesome! And I agree with Joel. Where can I get the music for the battleship sequence? That is incredible!

I think today's carnage tells it all. God is Captain of Heaven's Armies. This is not a cute little commercial, it is a wake up call. The country club lasts for a season, but boot camp prepares you for life. Thank you and God bless.

Nice portrayal! My church is actually both. I'm so grateful I'm in it, because I couldn't have picked a better captain than the Savior Jesus Christ. The people in it try so hard to be Christlike, the leaders are always in the look out for me and my children to be prepared and able to identify the pirates that will come and litarelly destroy us... To be prepared for the storms of life, and to always wear the armor of God. Lisseth Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

A rescue boat is not enough of a metaphor... once they are rescued... found redemption... what next? The battle is on... "the thief comes to steal and destroy". The cruise ship/battleship is a wonderful analogy. It explains what we are really in church for.

Really? A battleship? So the Church is about battle? I thought it was about redemption. Wouldn't a rescue boat be an even better metaphor?
Ben Matthews
Great video. What music is that that was used for the battleship sequence? It's the perfect song, it made we want to suit up and go tear down a stronghold.

I actually had a dream with very similar content a few years ago and I now preach on this theme often. I was just looking for a possible graphic to use, Wow this video totally nails it! Rick Lawrence Christian Fellowship Center Qualicum Beach BC Canada

As a pastor of 24 years in one and working with my Dad who founded out church 44 years ago, I have never seen a clearer illustration of what the Church of The Lord Jesus is all about! May God raise up a fleet of local church battleships that will push back the gates of Hell in these last days!!! CARPE DIEM IN DEI GLORIAM!! Tim Mercaldo Church At The Gateway Staten Island, NY

This was tremendous! I love the cruise ship/battle ship analogy. Right on the money!

Production is awesome, as usual. But as a Canadian, I just don't connect with the battleship idea, not sure it would connect in our church. That said, I still think it's a great tool and very, very well done.

Dude...you all killed it with this one. Well done. Not only a challenge to the "people in the pews" but to the captain and crew, too.
